She could almost touch the skin and embrace the sun when she flew in the public swing. The screams of other humans would fly away when the clouds seemed to rest on her feet by mere seconds, just before she touched the dirt underneath her and the brown and simple swing. The metal bars would reflect the warmness of the sun so it could, after, penetrate her white skin. Brown curls filled her head and a half-hearted smile constantly spread through her lips. She wished she could adventure herself into the imaginary worlds with fairies and dark goblins she could fight. Because, other than her dreams, the only thing she had to fight was her desire of opening her arms above a building and fly to feel the air ravaging her. Only to destroy the body that kept her soul prisoner.
There was this other girl, with green protuberant eyes, that approached her one day. She extended a hand to the petite girl and promised her there were wonders in this world, much better than in dreams. At first the other girl denied it, and patted her foot on the ground in denial. She would not be fooled by a stranger with a precious glow in the words that escaped her mouth every time she spoke. No, because the last time someone had stick a branch into her heart and it had bled. And when the pour of rubies had dirtied her skin forever she promised herself it wouldn’t happen again.
But the other girl, with green eyes, cleaned her bloody stain from her chest with a lovely light she had never seen before. Created with her something called friendship. It was a gem that shone in her hand magnificently.
“It is unique. It was made only for us.”
“Don’t other people have it?” She asked curiously the blaze that erupted from the gem that had grown the moment when their hands had united and she had given her heart freely.
“Yes. You will have it with other people. But it’s always different.”
“Can I keep it? Forever?” The tears were springing in her eyes. “Will you let me?”
“It will shine as long as we take care of it.”
And so the jewel was divided in two and kept in a place people could never steal unless the girls allow it: her hearts.
